As We See His Face

I thought of a dear friend of mine
one I'd known for a long, long time
we'd met in a long school line
life was sweet, happy and fine

Best of friends, at school together
one I'd think of and admire forever
spending our youth, innocent, young
playing at recess 'til the bell rung

Soon turned out of schools gate
began our separate journeys' gait
full of life our flowers bloomed
never realizing the end soon loomed

The years passed by so swift
unrealizing the worth of life's gift
until one day we see our whole life
is now mere memories mostly strife

But I now stand in another line
a man so close to his own time
when I shall cross dark Jordan' river
and feel up my back deaths cold shiver

My soul will soon go
to whom I've sold my soul
whether it will be eternal life
or eternal teeth gnashing strife

Each will soon see our Makers' face
and He'll look back on our life's race
for our life on earth will decide
where our eternal soul will reside

I pray for each and every one I've known
and hope seeds of life for Him have sown
I pray for Gods' mercy and amazing grace
for that's all we'll have As We See His Face.
