But A Vapor

When I stop and consider life
how it's filled with bitterness and strife
how a lifetime of seventy years
compared to eternity - my eye tears

Eternity: forever without end
no fierceness or sympathy blend
no chance our choices to mend
the sentence with pardon bend

Each and every second of years of life
will be rehearsed, cursed,
a billion times a billion times
but choices there are never reversed

Life on earth is so tragically, tragically short
yearning for years extension by nature thwart
this temporary carcasse doth crumble,
desires and dreams bent - all a jumble

Cares of life; the everyday chore of living
cause us distraction from God giving
turn our eyes, our desires to swell
can cost and eternity in hell

We can't comprehend our time is gone
until such time an eternal era dawn
when warned - we stifle a yawn
into the web of deceit we're drawn

When death raps on our hearts door
the element of time for us is no more
we finally understand life's entire caper
is a whisp - it's merely But A Vapor
