It's such a awful showing
of a brother's hateful tongue
when he stood there blowing
hateful words which openly stung
And so you miss the next meeting at church
and eventually walk away from the Lord
deciding that the return wasn't worth the effort
citing, "I'm quittin, cause I got hurt"
Obviously one doesn't understand
using the term 'I got hurt'
has gotten so out of hand
the explanation so terse
One that covers a wide swath
easily enveloping grey areas
displacing blame, renouncing troth
laying aside Godly disiplinary
Renouncing what Christ did for us
as they leave the fold so brusk
His question comes through clear
brings to His eyes a tear
How many excruciating lashes
upon your back for me did they lay?
how much blood from each lash splashes
how did your back shredded to ribbons feel that day?
How did it feel, beard from your face torn
slapped, cursed, mocked, naked and scorned
the spit in your face, all the spiteful jeers
from a mob who before, sought me with tears
And how did the crown of thorns burn in your flesh
or, did the piercing spear your in the side?
did they drive nails through your hands?
and in shame, naked, on the cross spread arms wide?
Yet when you allow someone to offend
instead of returning forgiveness and love as I show
allowing the enemy to easily wend
hurts more than you could ever know
So let me get this straight
someone hurt you with some unkind word
somehow self justified, you coyly blate
so you walk away from Him - so crass and absurd
To walk away from Him Who took the quirt
when one has taken so little compared to His hurt
proves one thinks His sacrifice is of little worth
to use the self-serving term "I've been hurt . . . "
