The Question Mark

When I look back over my life
and realize the utter failure I've been
it sears my soul with deep strife
to comprehend the mark of sin

Not because God didn't create a way of escape
or provide a way to self extricate
but because I allowed a little thing like doubt
in my life grow to become spiritual drought

When doubt gains even the slightest foothold
the truths of His Word become cloudy
and I falter at Bible stories many times told
the sense of precious lessons become dowdy

Unwittingly I turn from the beauty of His Way
and suffer in confusion until the day
I fall on bended knee and cry out for Grace
then once again feel His forgiving embrace

Oh how doubt vision and belief can sway
and cause to sink like Peter on that day
when he walked on the water with the Master
allowed his focus on surrounding disaster

Instantly he cried "Lord save me!"
Jesus caught him asking "wherefore did you doubt?"
and in the same manner we allow the enemy
to direct us toward a disastrous route

All because we allow Gods' Word
containing His steadfast and unmovable mark
and allow to replace with vision blurred
the mark of doubt: The Question Mark
